Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
“Sherlock Holmes Stories”
“The man with the Twisted Lip”
A normal person who lived a parallel life as a beggar, had begun a confusion of a murder of him self, and Holmes dicovered him.

Plot summary: All the problem was arround the opium house in the East End of London. There Watson and Holmes met. And Holmes ask to Watson for some help with a case. It was about the disappearance of Neville Sinclair, who had been seen the last time by his wife in the opium house, cried and then disappeared, the police only found his clothes and a beggar named Hugh Boone (had a twisted lip, orange hair and dirty face), who was arrested. The clues was: anyone knew what was the job of Neville, Hugh Boone had the same injury as Neville, there were a present for Neville´s son, Neville´s coat in the river whith pennies in the pockets.
Holmes had been thought all night in that and concluded that Neville and Hugh Bonne was the same person, then they went to the prison and when Hugh was sleeping he wash his face and dicovered him.
Neville explained why he had began to be a beggar, because he had been working as a reporter when his boss ask him for made a report about beggars, he had started a life as a beggar and realized that you can earn more money like this way.

Analysis: I really like this story because I think the reasons of Neville for being a beggar are truth, here in Mexico are thousands of people who survive like this way. Several of them have the tools for work, make a better Mexico and have a better life, but they are lazy. They only want easy money, and not to be a respectable person.
What is disturbing is how her wife had been living with him several years and don´t knew anything about his job. I´m suprised how Holmes could integrate all the facts and get a conclusion, how the author give you all the facts for your brain work´s.

“Sherlock Holmes Stories”
“Silver Blaze”
An accidental murder of the trainer of Silver Blaze (racehorse) discover a person with many debts who was able to made anything for money.

Plot summary: Holmes took the case about the disappearance of the racehorse Silver Blaze and the murder of it´s trainer in King´s Pyland. It was very important because he was the favourite for the Wessex Cup (an importan trace for the next week), his owner Colonel Ross and Gregory (police detective) had asked him for help. Near the stables was another race stables at Mapleton. One strange night the maid had given chicken for the stable boys, and in the morning there was not sign of the horse and the trainer. They found the dead body of Straker with a wound in his leg, a small knife for surgery with blood, and the note of a bill to Mr Darbyshire. They had a suspected stranger named Simpson, but he was´nt guilty. When Holmes was observing the place he found a harf burnt match, then they were walking when Holmes found marks of a horse in the earth, they discovered that the horse was in Mapleton stables, and that some sheeps had become lame.
Holmes integrate all facts and concluded that the horse had hit out Straker because he was frightened of the bright candle, as he fell in the ground, the knife cut him. He had wondered to injured the horse with the knife, for win the bets and pay his bill, so he had practiced with some sheeps the cuts.
Then the horse ran out and Silas Brown take it in his stables.

Analysis: I chose this story because I study Veterinary and I like horses, it is truth that many people bet millions in one horse and is very important to have the best.
What is surprising was how Straker could tried to injured Silver Blaze for make it lose the race, and bet to the second best horse for obtein the money that he had spent with out scruples.
Is funny how Holmes demostrated to Colonel and Gregory that he could resolved the case, he entered Silver Blaze to the race disguised.
Is very important to notice that the author knew that the race horse is a nervous animal and could recognize when someone want to injure it. Another important fact is that the horse live in the nature in groups, so it was oviously that Silver Blaze will run with other horses (Mapleton stables) when he felt free.

Hello Eli.....,
Well, I am glad to see that you respected the format....that was good. As a matter of fact I liked the second report( about the horse) better than the first one. Not only because it appears more coherent and grammatically correct, but also because you made it sound more interesting (to me).

“Sherlock Holmes Stories”
“The Devil`s Foot”
Plot summary:
Holmes and Watson had taken a holiday because the bad health of Holmes, they traveled down to the Western part of Cornwall. There, they met Mr Roundhay and Mr Montimer Tregennis; they lived near, in a village called Tredannik.
One day in the morning the two men entered the house and asked for help to Holmes: “Last evening Mr Tregennis had gone to Trelew, to his brother`s house, they had played cards, and Tregennis leaved them at 10 o´clock. In the morning he returned to the house finding his sister dead and his two brothers laughing and shouting like madmen. The maid hadn´t heard anything.”
Montimer explained to Holmes he didn’t live with his brothers because a quarrel long years ago for money.
When Holmes visited the house notice fire in the room, nothing had been changed after Montimer left the house, any footprints were around the house and the maid told him she had fallen unconscious when she entered to the room in the morning, but then she felt better opening the window.
When Holmes returned to the house he met Dr Leon Sterndale, the great African explorer, he was cousin of Tregennis and he was at Plymouth when he heard the news, and came back. He wanted to know the name of the suspicious.
Holmes didn’t tell him, but when he left them, Holmes followed him.
Next morning Roundhay came to them house and announced that Montimer were dead. When Holmes and Watson visited the house, noticed that the house’s air was thick and difficult to breathe, they found an oil lamp burning, and Holmes took some burn dust of it.
In them house Holmes made an experiment, burning the dust of the oil lamp. They felt near to die smelling that air. So they knew how the deaths had happened and everything suggested that Tregennis was the criminal in the firs case. Then Holmes sent for Dr Sterndale, and demanded him for an explanation of Montimer`s murder. Then Holmes said all Sterndale`s movements and Sterndale confessed his guilt and explained: “Brenda Tragennis was in love with him for years, but they couldn’t marry, because he had a wife, who left him years ago. They had been waiting for the permission, when this happened. Sterndale had brought the “Devil’s foot” root form Africa and showed it to Montimer, he stole him some and kill his brothers with it, for take all money. That’s why Sterddale took revenge and killed Montimer.”
Holmes understood the situation and let him return to Africa.
Analysis: I liked this story because I found interesting that the “Devil´s foot” root could kill people only by smelling it burning. I felt surprised when I noticed that Montimer had killed his own brothers because he wanted the money, and then why he by him self ask for help to Holmes, knowing that Holmes is a good detective. I felt happy when Holmes let Sterndale to return to Africa, because he understood how Sterdale loved Brenda. I think it was obvious that Sterndale will kill Montimer, first because Montimer killed Brenda and his brothers for money, then Brenda was in love with Sterndale and finally Montimer had stolen the root from Sterndale. I think the story is very realistic and intensive… love, murders…

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
“Sherlock Holmes Stories”
“The Creeping Man”
Plot summary:
Presbury, the famous Cambridge scientist, has twice been attacked by his own dog, and Holmes was investigating the case. He explained to Watson the situation: “Presbury`s wife had died many years ago, and he lived with his daughter, Edith. Few months ago Presbury had fallen in love with the youngest daughter of a colleague. Although there was no opposition and she liked him too, she decided he was too old to marry.”
He left home for two weeks and went to Prague, then he returned and brought a small box, from that time he had been receiving letters marked with a cross which Bennett (Presbury`s secretary) couldn’t open. The professor behavior changed, he became stronger and the dates indicated that every nine days the dog had been attacking him.
Bennett told them that one night he was lying awake when he heard noise and saw professor Presbury crawling and moving along with easy, then he rushed down the stairs and didn’t return that night. Then Edith (Presbury´s daughter) told them that last night she was awoken by the noise from the dog, her bedroom is on the second floor, suddenly she watched her father throw the window for about half a minute, and then he disappeared. When she saw her father in the morning he made no mention of last night.
Next day they visited professor Presbury`s house, but they didn’t obtain any information from him. They looked out Edith’s window; the only way to climb up was a tree which grew up the wall. Bennett provided Holmes the name and the address from the man who had been sending letters to Presbury, the name was Dorak.
Holmes searched his identity and found that Dorak was a chemist from Czechoslovakia. For some days Watson didn’t know anything about Holmes. One day Holmes called Watson to go to Presbury`s house.
When they arrived, Bennett was waiting for them. Holmes indicated them to stay awake all night. Nearly midnight they saw Presbury in his night-shirt, he crept around the house and then around the corner, suddenly he began to climb the tree speed and easy. Then he dropped to the ground, picked up some small stones and purposely threw them in the dog’s face. The dog takes him by the throat, and he became unconscious. They carried Presbury to his bedroom, and found an empty medicine bottle and some letters. The letters said that the medicine was for being younger, but it was from monkeys!!! That’s why the professor had been behaving every nine days like a monkey.
Holmes understood all the strange behavior of Presbury and return to London.
Analisis: I liked this story because it talks about the dream of many people: “how to become younger”, I think that is very difficult to accept your age. The professor Presbury take the risk and every nine days became a monkey; it’s funny to imagine how Presbury could creep and climb with easy. I didn’t like that the author didn’t explain what happened with the girl whose was in love with Presbury, if the medicine made an effect in his body or in his skin. It would be interesting if he had explained if the girl decided to married with him.

Hi Eli... You were just one of the few people that respected the format and included an analysis of the story. I liked this because I could see that you have a critical opinion and can express it in the language you are learning. Your second book report also shows some improvement in the way you write. congratulations.
